Sanyo Honored by the EDA Consortium for Digital Camera Chip Design Using Silicon Perspective's First Encounter
LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 18, 2001--Silicon Perspective
Corporation(r) (SPC), the leading supplier of IC design tools for
silicon virtual prototypes, announced that its customer, Sanyo
Electric Co., Ltd., will receive this year's EDA Consortium Design
Achievement Award. Sanyo is being honored for its System-on-Chip (SoC)
design that handles all of the camera processing functions for Sanyo's
new IDC1000Z IDshot camera. Sanyo's design is a 15 frame-per-second
megapixel real-time image processor that includes CCD signal
processing, JPEG/MPEG2 image compression/decompression, a RISC CPU, an
NTSC encoder, a SDRAM controller and peripheral interfaces. This SoC
was created using leading EDA tools, including SPC's First
Encounter(TM) product. Sanyo's design team will receive the award
today at a luncheon sponsored by the EDA Consortium and EE Times at
the Design Automation Conference.
The EDA Consortium and EE Times bestow the Design Achievement
Award to acknowledge the efforts of design teams that optimize the use
of commercial EDA tools to develop innovative integrated circuit (IC)
and systems technology. The award sponsors select winning teams for
design achievement and excellence in IC and systems developed in
computer, networking, telecommunications, consumer, semiconductor,
military/aerospace and industrial/automotive/medical product
categories.
The team at Sanyo used SPC's First Encounter tool for front-end
floorplanning, placement and in-place optimization (IPO). This was the
first time these engineers used First Encounter, and the team
appreciated how easily it fit into their design flow. First Encounter
let Sanyo's design team look at the big picture of the whole chip from
the start of their design process when they were assembling a mixture
of RTL blocks, macros, third party IP and ``black box'' IP. As the
design progressed, the Sanyo team was able to update this picture on a
daily basis if necessary because First Encounter is based on a very
fast run-time database that makes quick iterations possible.
